Ibiza has retained a status for being 'the' clubbing island for a very long time. Occasionally an article will appear stating that it is all over and Goa or Ayia Napa is now the place to see or be seen, but it still does not make any difference to the thousands flocking to Ibiza week after week.

If you happen to read any venue's promotional material, the straight clubbing magazines, or the gay press reviews of Ibiza, you will be left wondering what the hell it is actually like. The straight club magazines will profess a very tolerant mixed crowd and atmosphere the gay press constantly give the impression that the whole of Ibiza is there to service the club scene and that it has taken over, and the club's promotional material deserves an award for being so far up its own arse, it would make Peckham sound like Mauritius, and, up until opening night, it is impossible to be sure what, and or who, will be on where.

One thing needs stating at the start, if you are looking for a gay club that you will immediately recognise as such, stick to Anfora within the walls of Dalt Vila in Ibiza Town, or for as long as it is open Babylon in Botafoc.

Though the majority of the mega-clubs (outside of San Antonio) have at least one gay or "poly-sexual" party a week, these are still predominantly straight affairs. Having said that, if you do want to give the legendary Ibicencen club scene a try at least once in your lifetime, the following pages should point you towards the best nights on offer. Hitting the right club, on the right night, may give you a fresh perspective on why so many people fall in love with the mega-clubs...

The one night out actually worth paying for on a weekly basis has to be HOME OF LA TROYA at SPACE (not to be mistaken with La Troya Asesina at AMNESIA) both every Wednesday night. HOME OF LA TROYA is a must-do for anyone and it's genuinely worth planning your holiday around the opening and closing parties. If you go, make sure you don't rush off early. SPACE closes at 6am and reopens at 7AM so you will jsut have time for breakfast...

In case you're wondering where ANFORA fits in to the Islands clubbing scene, it is good any night of the week as a gay club. If you take your clubbing seriously, don't go on Thursday as the 70s and 80s sounds, in a club packed to the rafters with the best party atmosphere on the island, could seriously damage your clubbing credentials.
