We enjoy the local cuisine and visit a variety of traditional restaurants. We stay active with walking and biking through the glorious San Grasso National Park, past olive groves, chestnut woods, vineyards and sunflower fields. Visit antique and fresh produce markets, beautiful old villages and take part in traditional Italian festivals. There is always time to relax around the stunning pool or sit quietly with a glass of Prosecco under an ancient olive tree.

Food is a way of life in Italy. In the region of Abruzzo, the food is always local and fresh. From farm to table! Our cooks, be it a ’nonna’ from a nearby village or a chef from one of the finest restaurants are always traditional and yet wildly innovative.

During this week we invite our guests to savour, learn and be inspired through visits to fabulous restaurants, cooking classes in our villa and wine and olive oil tastings at a variety of vineyards and estates. The week revolves around our love of food and wine, but we also enjoy hiking and biking, five-star spa treatments, luxury accommodation and everything that Villa Girosole and the Abruzzo region have to offer.

An all-inclusive, truly traditional Italian getaway to one of the most beautiful and undiscovered regions of Italy: Abruzzo.

Abruzzo Italian Gay Getaway Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Saturday
Welcome to Villa Girosole!
Abruzzo gay getaway• Ciao! Touch down in Rome, Italy! Your holiday begins now!

• You will be met by your hosts upon arrival and then transfer from Rome to Villa Girosole in a luxury, airconditioned 12-seater minibus. An easy drive past beautiful Italian villages, scattered along the countryside.

• Welcome to Villa Girosole! Upon arrival, enjoy a welcome drink while your luggage will be taken care of. A quick tour of the villa...

• Settle in. Make yourself at home. Our home is your home...

• We open up a bottle of Prosecco, sit down to relax and enjoy the breath-taking views with snacks, locally farmed fruit, bread, cheese and olives.

• Time to go up to your room, open your welcome gift and freshen up and spend the rest of the day as you wish.

• Drinks are always available in the ‘cucina’ – help yourself! Lunch and dinner will be served under the pergola, overlooking the rolling sunflower fields.

Day 2 - Sunday
Abruzzo Market Day
Abruzzo gay tour - Guardiagrele• It’s market day in Abruzzo! We visit the weekly market in the village center of Guardiagrele.

• The journey up to the charming town of Guardiagrele is a beautiful trip with amazing views.

• The town is out and about and going to church and alive with people. Sit outside the large church at a café. Order something to drink: Un cappuccino, per favore and enjoy it while you watch the world go by.

• Then, time for a three-course lunch at the fantastic “Cantina del Tripio” in Guardiagrele.

Start off with the staple antipasti, a mixed cold platter comprising some excellent Pecorino of various ages and a light smooth ricotta-like cheese, Caciocavallo made from cows’ milk, served with a Vino Cotto jelly and an excellent Tartuffe Miele. Also, a wide selection of salami and Prosciutto. After this you will be treated to scrumptious slices of courgette and aubergine in a new, light & peppery warm olive oil.

Main course could be a classic Abruzzo pasta dish, Pasta e Ceci (chickpeas). This may not sound very exciting, but it is the addition of a special Abruzzi’s condiment called Adacciata which brings it alive – this is a combination of garlic, parsley, basil and Prosciutto (in this case smoked) which is added to the pasta and chickpeas as a sort of pesto. It makes for the most amazing dish, part soup, part pasta. A light infused and enthusing delight!

You will also be kindly served with a selection of nuts to crack yourself. Walnuts. Though this will only be a pallet preparer for a course of freshly roasted chestnuts, a huge number… too many to eat… So, feel free to slip some into a serviette and hid them in your pocket to make a Chestnut and Brussel sprout soup later….

Share a traditional Abruzzo-style cake, soaked admirably in alcohol and very consumable.

Day 3 - Monday
Time to relax and be pampered
Abruzzo gay tour - Majella National Park• Time to do whatever you please. Let’s explore the region of Abruzzo even further – visit a few villages – or just relax around the pool, Prosecco in hand!

• Or visit the only spa set in the green heart of Abruzzo, inside the Majella National Park – dedicated to the natural well-being and thermal treatments: Sulphur waters, steam baths, hydro massages and traditional massages.

• Or what about trying your hand at Gelato making?

• Or maybe you want to be a bit more adventurous and try paragliding?

• Truffle hunting? Yoga?

• Just SO much to do – seven days might not be enough and you’ll have to return to explore Abruzzo even more…

Day 4 - Tuesday
A fun-filled day of food and cooking
Abruzzo gay tour - cooking lesson• A fun-filled day of food and cooking, wine, olive oil, bread and laughter!

• Get ready for the best cooking lesson with local, fresh and healthy products accompanied by special wines from the Abruzzo region! You will be taught all the tricks of traditional Italian recipes.

• Let’s cook and enjoy yourselves. Then, after cooking we will enjoy the meal at our table together!

Your hosts, Annabella and her daughter, Rosario. A mother and daughter team that have always loved to cook authentic recipes of Abruzzo. Family and friends often gather around their table full of all kind of goodness, eating and drinking a glass of good local wine. Every meal is rigorously infused with the passion for tradition. A unique experience of a full immersion in the genuine and authentic cooking tradition while surrounded by a family atmosphere. They will teach you how to cook the best recipes as well as tips and tricks that they have learned over the years.

Day 5 - Wednesday
Adriatic Coast
Abruzzo gay tour - Trabocchi Coast• A visit to the Adriatic coast is an absolute must – and so is a scrumptious lunch on a traditional Trabocchi.

• Discover the unique Trabocchi Coast. A stretch of coastline that lies between Ortona and San Salvo along the Adriatic Sea. The coast is named after the wooden fishing huts, built out over the water, that exist only in Abruzzo. It is the most unique experience that the Abruzzo region has to offer.

• Together we will visit Fossacesia and all its treasures, followed by a lunch at the best Trabocchi in the area. We will sample the best of local cuisine along with special wines. A sumptuous lunch!

• We will enjoy a fresh seafood feast with local dishes such as Brodetto di Pesche, a delicate seafood Stew and Fritto Misto, which is a mixture of gourmet-sized shallow-fried seafood.

• The afternoon wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the famed Fountain of Wine. The fountain, which is provided by a local winery and open free to the public, must be seen to be believed!

• A truly special experience that you will remember for years to come.

Day 6 - Thursday
Cheese Making
Abruzzo gay tour - shepherd• Follow the Shepherds into the field and take part in a cheese making class.

• Be a guest at a Bio-Agritourismo – a Bio-organic farm. You will accompany the shepherds on an easy hike into the fields of the national park, to graze their sheep in the fields, breath in the pristine alpine air and enjoy the splendid views of the mountains all around.

• Back at the farm is where the sheep and goats are milked to make first class ricotta and pecorino cheese. The farm’s quality cheese is so revered, that it is used in the best restaurants in New York and even served at the Whitehouse.

• You will each get to make our own cheese, learning at the hands of these masters.

• We will enjoy lunch in the farm’s own restaurant onsite, where they use only their own or local produce. We will sample the farm’s array of Salumi and cheeses. An absolute favorite is the ricotta cheese, lightly smoked with juniper berries. The gnocchi made with wild boar and melted 12-year aged pecorino cheese is an experience in itself!

Day 7 - Friday
Rest & Relax
Abruzzo Italy gay travel• As with any other day - always time to rest and relax - to do as you please.

• Soak up the sun next to the pool. Drink Prosecco.

• Let's visit a nearby village? Or a drive along the Adriatic coast?

• Or maybe try out your newly acquired Italian cooking skills in our cucina - but most importantly, enjoy yourself, laugh and have fun.

Day 8 - Saturday
Goodbye and see you next time!
• Return to Rome for your flight back home.

Villa Girosole gay holidays

Villa Girosole

An easy one hour and 20-minutes by luxury airconditioned minivan from Rome, past small hilltop villages and just a stone throw from the Adriatic coast, you will “come home” to Villa Girosole. Our villa is a beautifully restored farm house, set in the Italian countryside which is dotted with olive trees and covered in sunflower fields – with breath-taking views of the Italian countryside and just a short stroll from the picturesque village of Castilenti.

Villa Girosole bedroom

Villa Girosole was a tumbled down farm house with several outbuildings. With a lot of patience and passion, it was brought back to its former glory. The six en-suite bedrooms are all unique with a masterful mix of sophistication and style. Ancient beams and traditional vaulted ceilings were carefully restored and brought back to life.

Modern Italian lighting blends with hand-crafted furnishings. Italian linen and natural fiber mattresses offer the perfect sleep. The seven bathrooms are luxurious, farmhouse chic with the latest fittings.

The kitchen and open-plan living areas are spacious, modern with a touch of tradition – these spaces open up to a covered veranda and pool area, with breath-taking views.

Food and wine in Abruzzo: a reason to rejoice!

Whether it is a simple ‘pasta’ (pastry) dipped into an early morning cappuccino at a road side café or enjoying a full-blown festival by picnic tables in the town square – food is something to be cherished, discussed and celebrated with typical Italian passion.

Abruzzo Italy gay cooking trip

At Villa Girosole we take our food as seriously as any Italian. Here you can kick-start your day with the smell of freshly baked biscotti, while enjoying your morning cappuccino. Followed by the most delicious and healthy breakfast served under the pergola.

‘Pranzo’ or ‘Cena’, lunch or dinner is savored in either a gourmet local restaurant or back at the villa in one of many settings. Each meal is created by our in-house chef.

All meals are 100% organic, a nearby farm supplies us with world-class extra virgin olive oil and a plethora of seasonal, fresh vegetables. From farm to table!
