Pila, Italy
The drive up to Pila from the Aosta Valley has to be one of the most spectacular in the Alps. As the road climbs and the valley drops away below, the imposing mountains of both the Monte Rosa and Mont Blanc come into sight. As Pila appears above it is clear that this resort has the perfect location: a bowl sheltered from the wind with an enviable snow record yet a fine sunny position.
The Italian ski resort of Pila is part of the Aosta Valley Ski Area with access to 129 individual pistes. In addition to the skiing in Pila itself (70 kmkm of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Aosta Valley ski resorts of Alagna Valsesia, Breuil-Cervinia, Courmayeur, Crévacol, Etroubles, La Thuile and Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses.
The ski resort itself is above 1500m, so skiing or boarding back to the resort is usually possible. With pistes above 2500 metres, skiing and snowboarding is assured throughout the season.
Snowmaking: Pila is able to augment natural snow through the use of 145 Snow Cannons.
Ski Lift Capacity: The 13 Ski Lifts of Pila are able to uplift 16,300 skiers / snowboarders per hour.
There are four airports within two hours drive, so ski weekends, snowboard breaks and short ski holidays to Pila are perfectly feasible.
Aosta Airport (AOT): 18 km
Torino Airport: 120 km
Aosta Railway Station: 15 km
