Peruvian Amazon Adventure Cruise

May 9 – 18, 2015
Lindblad Expedition's / National Geographic Delfin II

Amazon River Olivia All-Lesbian Adventure Cruise 2015 Join us on this incredible National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions adventure along the Amazon River! Sailing on the luxurious Delphin II down the Maranón and Ucayali Rivers, you'll see wildlife that's native only to this part of the world. Three-toed sloths, piranhas, squirrel monkeys, tamarins, white-throated toucans and pink river dolphins are just a few of the many animals you'll see on your 10-day journey through the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve.

Hop on board a skiff or kayak, and get closer to the inner tributaries that take you deeper into the Peruvian rainforest. Meet the ribereños – local people – and have a chance to learn about their life along the riverbanks. At night, chat with a naturalist about the flora and fauna you saw earlier that day or attempt to spot nocturnal jungle life.

There's a pulse to the Amazon, a kind of undercurrent. Inky waters backed by layers of green forest at once relax and invigorate. Wild birdcalls fill the air. A leafy branch shakes to reveal a troop of clamoring monkeys. Travel aboard the exquisite Delfin II and discover the pristine upper reaches of the legendary Amazon.

Peru's Pacaya-Samiria Reserve is the largest protected seasonal flood forest in South America. The legendary river provides sustenance and utility for the communities who live along the banks, and fosters a staggering level of biodiversity. The exquisite 28-guest Delfin II is perfect for our daily explorations, designed for the river environment and to keep you connected to it. The open airy decks, and the spacious, well-appointed suites with huge windows give you an unending view of life along the Amazon. The chef artfully prepares remarkable dishes using local sustainable ingredients.

Walk, kayak, and swim. Every day, we board 10-person, naturalist-guided skiffs for a variety of outings. On days with low water levels, we'll hike on terra firma to learn about the lavish vegetation of the rain forest. When water levels are too high for walking, the skiffs provide nimble access, allowing us to thread through narrow, inviting tributaries. We also venture to a place where Victoria water lilies can extend over six feet in diameter. Powerful nighttime scopes allow for exciting, evening skiff explorations in search of nocturnal creatures. Skiffs also provide an excellent platform for photography. Our ship is the only one in the region equipped with a fleet of kayaks, providing the rare privilege of intimate up-close experiences in this magical environment. If you happen upon a spectacular jabiru stork, the tallest flying bird in South America, you can stop and observe quietly for as long as you like. Or you may opt to stay on board Delfin II to enjoy a rejuvenating massage. Each day the choice of what to do is yours

Amazon River lesbian adventure cruise

Our Amazon wildlife travel focuses on the remarkable Pacaya-Samiria Reserve, backed by two fierce rivers - the Maranon and Ucayali. This is a less-traveled, wilder part of the Amazon, with the highest concentration of bird species on the planet—and you'll see many fascinating examples. You'll take a refreshing swim in a lagoon within the Reserve, and perhaps see the Amazon's famous pink river dolphins tranquilly swimming nearby. And learn fascinating things about the rain forest, including how tannins are washed out by the steady tropical rain, giving the water its mysterious "black" appearance and its romantic nickname: the river of mirrors.

Amazon handcrafts

One of the most rewarding and memorable aspects of this Amazon adventure travel is meeting the people who live along the riverbanks, known as riberenos. They seldom have outsiders visiting their village, and are always welcoming, showing us a heartwarming and genuine friendliness. The women of the communities create beautiful, one-of-a-kind artisan crafts - from intricate baskets and charming animal replicas, to belts and jewelry. Most of the décor on Delfin II is the handiwork of these women. The local children will beguile you with songs and smiles.

Amazon adventure lesbian cruise

A tradition on all Lindblad-National Geographic expeditions is the gathering of staff and guests each evening to exchange stories about the day's events—a get-together known as "Recap" and it's often one of the most engaging parts of your journey. On the breezy top deck of Delfin II, while you enjoy a cocktail and some hors d'oeuvres our naturalists talk about the highlights and sightings of the day. It's a relaxed time with opportunities for questions and anecdotes. Your expedition leader will outline the next day's activities before everyone heads to dinner.

Uur base for exploration - National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions' Delphin II

Delfin II is a stately riverboat, recently built for the express purpose of exploring deep into the Peruvian Amazon at the headwaters of this mighty river—and doing so in modern tropical style.

With its hardwood floors, rattan-draped sofas, wooden-slat hammocks and graceful, modern design, Delfin II is a perfect base for exploration. The Delfin II is outfitted to help you make the most of your Amazonian adventure — it's where luxury meets intimate adventure travel.

Delfin II top deck

Public Areas:
Outdoor areas include the well-designed, comfortable Top Deck, where sofas and chairs invite you to linger with a good book or a pair of binoculars. Enjoy drinks at the bar and unwind on cool, wooden-slat hammocks. The Top Deck is where the natural history staff will give their presentations with maps, large flat-screen plasma and digital technology. There is a small reference Library and the Bridge, where you are welcome to meet the captain and officers.

Meals:
The air-conditioned dining room's large windows provide panoramic views. A different visual presentation greets you at every meal, which are served in a single seating with unassigned tables. Meals on the Delfin II are to be savored. Often special dishes will include sustainable products of the rain forest and sauces made with exotic regional fruits. The chef prepares dishes equal to any five-star restaurant.

Amazon exploration lesbian cruise

Expedition Equipment:
We search for the Amazon's rare birdlife and mammals, and explore the tributaries that feed these rivers aboard 10-person skiffs that feature individual seats with cushions and plenty of legroom. Our local naturalists, expert in spotting wildlife, join us in the skiffs. Kayaks offer a quiet way to explore remote, seldom-visited side streams. Guests may swim directly from the skiffs using the convenient swim ladder, weather permitting.

Amazon lesbian cruise on Delfin II - Master Suite

Suites:
Delfin II accommodates 28 guests in 14 superb outside-facing suites. Each offers a large window or several large windows that look out onto the river and rain forest we're exploring. Every suite aboard is a more than comfortable space to end your active day and begin each morning.

Every spacious suite has a minimalist decor and luxurious overtones, and all are air-conditioned with individual controls. In your suite's bathroom you'll find showers stocked with organic shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. A hairdryer and bathrobes are provided as well as moisturizing lotion, a sunscreen and insect repellant combo, plus an iron and ironing board, though our casual, expedition-style of travel ensures you'll likely have no need to press your clothes for exploring.

Traveler Info

Currency

The monetary unit of Peru is the Nuevo Sol. As of June, 2014, $1.00 US = 2.80 PEN.

Languages

Spanish is the national language of Peru, but English is spoken widely.

Climate

The climate in Peru varies depending on where we will be. May is cooler in Lima, as it is fall, so be sure to bring warmer clothing as it is cooler and damp (17°C/62°F by day and 11°C/52°F by night). However, closer to the equator in the Amazon, temperatures are much hotter with relative humidity (32°C/89°F by day and 21°C/71°F by night). It is recommended to bring a rain jacket as there will most likely be rain in the rainforests.

Travel documentation and identification

You will need a passport that is valid for six months past the date of the trip. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please check with both your country's consulate and the consulates of the countries we will be visiting to make sure that you do not need an entry visa or other additional documentation.

Vaccinations

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends malaria prophylaxis and yellow fever vaccination for travel to the Peruvian Amazon. The CDC also recommends that the routine vaccines should be up to date: influenza, chickenpox (or varicella), polio, measles/mumps/rubella (MMR Vaccine), diphtheria/tetanus/pertissis (DTP Vaccine).

We also recommend that you consult your personal physician for medical advice, showing her or him the itinerary indicating the places you will be visiting. Your physician is most familiar with your personal medical history and is best qualified to determine your particular needs. It is always advisable to have physical and dental check-ups before you leave.

Although the water and food are generally safe in Peru, occasional stomach upsets may occur, and we suggest that you ask your doctor to recommend anti-diarrhea medication. We recommend that you drink bottled water throughout your trip. Bottled water is available at the hotels and on board the ship.

Where to fly into/out of

You will need to fly into Lima, Peru (LIM). Most flights arrive in the evening.

Suggested arrival/departure times

Flights can arrive at any time to Lima (LIM) on May 9, 2015, even up until midnight. Hotel check-in begins at 3:00pm. Flights for departure on *May 18, 2012 can depart at any time from Lima (LIM).

There are flights that depart Lima in the late evening on May 17 (For example, American, Delta and LAN Airlines has red-eye flights departing Lima very late at night on May 17 or between midnight and 2am on May 18). You CAN book these late night flights, and we will have a dayroom for you instead of an overnight room on May 17. We do not suggest you book these late night flights on May 18/19, as you will have a long wait for this flight with check-out of the hotel at 12 noon! There are early morning flights on May 18 on American, Delta and LAN as well.

Luggage allowances

Airlines often restrict (or charge) for excess baggage. Because each airline is different, and the regulations change over time, please check with your airline for baggage allowances.

Please note that there are luggage weight restrictions on the flights between Lima and Iquitos. Each passenger may have one checked bag weighing no more than 23 kilos (approximately 50 pounds) and one carry on weighing no more than 8 kilos (approximately 17 pounds). If you are traveling prior to or after the trip, and will have additional baggage, you may leave behind excess luggage at the Ramada Costa del Sol Lima Hotel. You can collect this luggage when you return to Lima at the end of the trip.

Transfers and Meeting up with Olivia

The Ramada Costa del Sol Lima Hotel is directly across the street from the International Terminal. Transfers from the airport to the hotel are not included, however, you will be able to walk across the street to the hotel. Transfers (and/or luggage assistance) from the Lima hotel to the Lima Airport/Iquitos airport to ship and ship to Iquitos Airport/Lima airport to hotel are all included as needed.

Check-In

Hotel check-in begins at 3:00PM

Hotels

Our host hotel in Lima is the Casa del Sol Ramada. Should you wish to arrive a day early or extend your stay, we recommend booking directly online with the hotel and request a Standard Room so you will not have to change rooms.

The Casa del Sol Ramada is at the airport, and a cab is necessary to get to the beach and historic district. If you are planning to spend a little more time in Lima, we suggest a Lima hotel that is closer to the Miraflores District.

Getting to your ship

On May 10, you will have breakfast at the hotel and then be taken on a panoramic tour of downtown Lima, which may include a visit to Casa Amiaga, the Larco Herrera Museum, and lunch at the Museo Larco Café and restaurant. After lunch you will be taken to the Lima airport for your flight to Iquitos, which will depart in the late afternoon. Once we arrive in Iquitos, a bus will transfer you to the riverside town of Nauta (approx. 1 ½ hours) to embark the elegant Delphin II in time for dinner.

Ship Location

Our port of embarkation is in Nauta, Peru. When we arrive into Iquitos by plane, we will transfer by bus (approx. 1 ½ hours) to this riverside town and embarkation will begin immediately.

Ship Check-In

Check-in will be upon arrival to the ship.

Flight Guidelines

Most flights arrive into Lima in the late evening. If you arrive earlier, be aware that hotel check-in begins at 3:00pm. Departures on May 17 should be for after 9:00pm, or anytime on May 18. Please be aware that if you choose to depart late night on May 18, hotel check-out is 12 noon.

Activity Level

This trip requires walking on cobblestone streets for a tour in Lima, hiking on uneven, sometimes slippery uphill and downhill terrain, and stairs. Participants are required to be in good physical health. Wheelchairs and walkers cannot be accommodated on this trip.

Electricity

Ecuador and the Galapagos operate on US electrical current, 110 volts, 60 cycles.

Air Conditioning

The ship is air-conditioned throughout. Each cabin has its own thermostat, allowing you to control the temperature level in your cabin. Because of the high humidity in the Amazon rainforest, keeping the temperature extremely low inside the cabin can cause electronic equipment to fog up on contact with the warm, humid air outside.

Internet / Phone

There is no email access in the Amazon. Phone access is very sporadic and not reliable.
