Life on board
 Up on the bowsprit, a couple watches the sun drop slowly into the sea, as gulls circle one last time in the sky.
Friends gather around the piano bar and join in singing a few favorites. In the Tropical Bar, the bartender shakes a pitcherful of some delicious cooling concoction. Now, is there anything more relaxing than this?
Clearly, this is not a cruise ship in the ordinary sense. On Star Clippers, you will find that there are no rigid schedules. You are free to do as you wish with your days and evenings.
To entertain you at certain ports, we bring local performers on board to give passengers an authentic taste of the local music and arts. So, rather than enduring another Broadway revue, you can enjoy the conviviality of fellow shipmates while a live band plays tropical tunes from a real paradise.
The Captain and crew are superb improvisers of the kind of light-hearted fun you'll only find on Star Clippers. The Captain's daily briefing on deck is wonderfully informative, as well as a chance to hear some great storytelling. There are other events and activities, such as our hilarious crab racing contests, that have evolved from Star Clippers' sailing heritage. In fact, our passengers tell us that it's the easy-going informality of Star Clippers that makes a cruise with us so enjoyable.
Culinary delights
Our inspired chefs make dining aboard a delightful culinary adventure with an international menu of foods from the far corners of the earth.
 When you rise, help yourself to a continental breakfast with Parisian croissants, toasted English muffins or sweet Danish pastries, or savor a full breakfast with fresh tropical fruits and crisp bacon, grilled sausage, smoked salmon and omelettes cooked to order in the dining room.

At lunch, a marvellous buffet of seafood, salads and grilled favorites awaits your pleasure. If the day includes a stop at one of the paradisical islands we frequent, you might also be treated to a succulent outdoor barbecue on shore.
When evening comes, our elegantly appointed dining room becomes the setting for the chef's finest culinary presentations, designed to please the eye and the palate, complimented by a selection of equally fine wines. You'll find our service to be friendly and gracious, as befits a tasteful restaurant. Of course, we would not presume to dictate your seating preferences.

If it's a beach day, you can swim, windsurf, water-ski, sail a Sunfish or explore in a Zodiac. Our sports staff will be happy to offer assistance, should you require it.

 Like a fine resort, all the amenities are here: double bed or twin beds that can be converted to queen, marble lined bathroom, private safe, television with in-house video, direct dial telephone, hair dryer and comfortable furnishings. The décor is tastefully traditional. You'll find the accoutrements of a luxurious classic yacht, where everything is ingeniously designed for comfort, ease and efficiency.

The crumbling cells and overgrown graves are all that remain of the former penal colony that once inhabited Isla de Coiba. Because of its unsavory history, few people came here and almost 80 percent of the island's 124 thousand acres are still virgin forest, where howler monkeys, crested eagles and scarlet macaws roam freely through the jungle canopy. Today, divers, snorkelers and surfers have made Coiba's Bahia Damas Reef a premier diving destination because of the amazing marine life including turtles, manta rays, sharks, dolphins and whales. One of Panama’s National Parks, this gorgeous island has pristine white sand beaches and is your private sanctuary for the day.
The Central American headquarters of the United Fruit Company until the 1980's, Golfito today is a new destination for outdoor adventurers and nature lovers – both on land and in water. Within howling distance is Piedras Blanca National Park, where white nosed capuchin and howler monkeys, toucans and scarlet macaws screech in the treetops and rare jaguars stalk their prey. And just across from the untrod beaches of Golfo Dulce lies another natural treasure, Corcovado National Park.
Nobody knows why pre-Columbian Indians chose Cano Island as a burial ground. If you hike up the trail from the beach, you’ll see where archeologists have found stone balls (bolas), mortars, pstles and other ancient tools scattered in various gravesites in the rain forest – and you may run across the occasional harmless boa constrictor! Located about 9 miles West of the Osa Peninsula in Drake Bay, Cano is also a favored diving spot, with an interesting cave dive.
When Francis Drake sailed into Drake Bay in 1579, he was amazed by its tranquil beauty. Today's visitors will be equally moved. Drake Bay is close to Corcovado National Park, one of the wildest, wettest and most wondrous jungles habitats on earth. With eight different habitats, 400 bird species, more than 100 reptiles and amphibians and 10 percent of all the mammals on earth, it's a tropical Noah's Ark. Also near Drake Bay is the smaller Marenco Biological Station, where you may hike through moss-festooned rain forest replete with toucans, monkeys, curassows and tanagers or ride a horse to the Rio Claro for a swim.
Quepos has long been a favorite R&R destination for sport fishers and eco-adventurers alike. As you wander the one-street village with its enticing eateries and festival atmosphere, you might be reminded of Key West. You’ll have a hard time tearing yourself away, but the astonishing beauty of nearby Manual Antonio National Park will entice you to discover another world – an amazing natural wonderland of colorful flora and fauna, where lush jungle, secluded beaches, and dramatic headlands over purling surf give your camera a real workout. The nearby Rio Naranjo is a magnet for thrill-seeking river rafters.
A tall fringe of coconut palms waves a welcome to a landscape of milky white curving beaches boarded by azure seas punctuated by soaring volcanic pinnacles. This is the exquisite little 320-hectare island of Tortuga off Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula. You might think you were snorkeling in aquavit, the water is so clear. Giant manta rays, dolphins and the occasional humpback while are frequent visitors here and the volcanic reef is home to dozens of marine species. Nearby on the Ncoya Peninsula the Curu Wildlife Reserve offers an up-close look at the amazingly diverse marine life of the Curu River mangrove estuary.
